Political Payne appears on Your Atheist Pastor Podcast

I had the privilege to be invited onto the Your Atheist Pastor Podcast, which originally aired last week, July 19, 2020. Here is the video version of the interview with the host Stefanie, who I also know professionally through teaching music. Atheism and secularism is a foundational aspect of my politics and what I hope to accomplish with my journalism, basically reasoned and rational discourse and appraisal of the world and what’s happening in it.

It’s a bit different for me to be on the other end of an interview, but I had a great time talking with Stefanie. We discuss my experiences growing up in a conservative town with lots of churches, Santa Maria, California. We also talk New Atheism, including Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens and my critique of some of their rhetoric. We also we cover the religious impulses that drive so much conspiracy thought, racism, and authoritarian support of concerning tactics of Donald Trump and his administration.

Many thanks to Stefanie for having me on the show! Check out the Your Atheist Pastor Podcast at https://youratheistpastor.org/. If you like independent journalism from Joe Payne, like, subscribe, or follow @PoliticalPayne on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
